‘Lilibeo Lace’ and the works of Lombardy schools

Opening hours: Tue-Fri 9.00am-12.00am and 3.00pm-6.00pm; Sat and Sun: 3.00pm-6.00pm

The historical section revolves around ‘Lilibeo Lace’, which is the result of three different techniques (i.e. crochet hook, needle and bobbin) deriving from the well-known ‘Renaissance lace’. Nowadays, it is very popular in the town of Lilibeo, not very far from Marsala (Sicily). Many laces belonging to important families from Sicily are expected to be displayed.

The contemporary section is dedicated to 25 bobbin lace schools of Lombardy showing their works, mainly made of silk.
A two-day stage, with the technical support of Accademia Merletti Cantù, is also organised on 28th and 29th March: two teachers (Francesca Genna and Lea Bongiorno) from Marsala are going to show the Lilibeo technique to the lace makers participating in the stage.
