Tell me a story of silk, part II. The Betrothed

Tell me a story (of silk), II part.
Opening day: Tuesday 4th August

The Betrothed (Italian: I promessi sposi) is one of the most famous italian historical novel. It was written by Alessandro Manzoni and published in 1827.
Set in Lombardy during the Spanish occupation in the late 1620s, The Betrothed tells the story of two young lovers, Renzo And Lucia, prevented from getting married by the petty tyrant Don Rodrigo, who desires Lucia for himself.

Silk is the third main charachter, in addition to Renzo and Lucia.
Silk is in almost all chapters of the historical novel: Renzo is a silk spinner, Lucia is walking home from the spinning mill when Don Rodrigo tries to approach her.

Through the original sketches by Emma Calderini, drawn to create the costumes for the fiction The Betrothed (1967) by Sandro Bolchi we want to tell you about silk in the italian novel and in Lombardy of 1628-1630.

We are waiting for you!
